Our team regularly schedules DME and orthotics clinics, checks for proper fitting, usage, and maintenance of equipment that increases mobility and independence. We are available to help procure any additional DME such as incontinence supplies, enteral feeding supplies, dressings, and other equipment needed for your child's daily care.

Our carefully curated recreational activities stimulate cognitive development, encourage socialization, and bring joy to your child's day. We guarantee every child has the opportunity to engage, learn, and have fun through various activities such as games, arts and crafts, holiday parties, birthday parties, and use of our indoor play area and entertainment platforms.

Pediatric Therapy Services

We can coordinate therapy services specific to your child's needs. We have partnered with The Peach Pit therapy group to offer physical, occupational, speech and feeding therapy exclusively to PPEC of Palm Beach patients. Experienced therapists of a variety of disciplines are available during our operational hours to employ evidence-based adaptive techniques to improve your child's functional abilities, communication skills, and overall development.

Family Resource Specialist

Our family resource specialist, also a parent of a special needs child, connects families with resources in the community and assists them in navigating support services. This may include, but is not limited to non-profit organizations, insurance coverage and benefits, options for education, and extracurricular activities for children with special needs.

Transportation Assistance

Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) helps those on Medicaid and select insurance plans to get to and from appointments at no cost to members. We are happy to coordinate door-to-door transportation that will bring your child to and from PPEC. We partner exclusively with a transportation provider that guarantees consistent and safe rides.

Early Intervention Services

We welcome Early Intervention specialists that evaluate children ages 0-3 for developmental milestones. They can provide support and coordinate services that will target focus areas of a child's physical, cognitive, and social development. These services are provided with your child's specific needs in mind.

Educational Support

PPEC of Palm Beach is happy to support alternative education, such as Palm Beach County School District's Hospital Homebound Program. We also have an Education Enrichment Assistant available to engage children in our care with educational activities and play to promote learning and development.

Assistance with Doctor Appointments

We are happy to help parents ensure that their child is able to attend other appointments such as wellness visits, specialist appointments, medical testing and imaging. We can accommodate virtual appointments, schedule and confirm transportation to and from in-person appointments, and provide clarification about a child's condition and treatment plan when needed.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a PPEC Facility?

A Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC) facility provides comprehensive nursing care and therapeutic services for medically complex children in a daycare setting, allowing for specialized care outside of a hospital environment.

How Does PPEC Work?

Our medical daycare provides a structured environment where children receive necessary treatment, therapies, and educational activities during daytime hours. Each child follows a personalized schedule based on their unique needs, also referred to as the Plan of Care. The Plan of care includes information that clinical staff will use to address a child’s condition, treatment plan, and goals.

Who Qualifies for PPEC Services?

Children from birth to 21 years old with complex medical conditions requiring ongoing nursing care may qualify for PPEC services. Refer to our eligibility page for a detailed list of conditions that qualify for PPEC, or contact us for a comprehensive eligibility assessment.

Why is PPEC good for my child?

PPEC offers a central location for medical care, nursing, and therapeutic services while also being a more reliable health care option than home care services. PPECs offer a child the chance to experience childhood in a safe, social setting.

How Long Can My Child Attend PPEC?

Your child can attend PPEC as long as their medical condition warrants a need for PPEC services, up until their 21st birthday. After enrollment, children are re-evaluated for PPEC authorization every 6 months. If goals aren’t met and PPEC is still needed, a new plan is submitted to insurance. Upon meeting goals, children are discharged, and we’ll help connect you with alternative services.

Can My Child Attend School and PPEC?

Yes! Your child can attend PPEC before or after school to receive nursing care and therapies. We are also able to coordinate transportation from school to PPEC to optimize the amount of time your child spends in our facility.

How Frequently Does My Child Need to Attend PPEC?

We understand that life can be busy, especially as a caretaker for a child with special needs! There is no requirement for the amount of time that your child spends at PPEC during business hours. We do ask that you send your child to PPEC at least 4 days per month, though we are happy to accommodate the schedule that best suits your needs.
